The second collaboration between J. Cole and bbgun was finally released and holy crap they’re blowing lots of shit up. I guess they love the smell of napalm in the morning down there (see what I did there?).

Those of familiar with young Jermaine’s young career (or with a basic understanding of Google) will remember their first video for ‘Simba’ which used the same one shot technique and some similar set-ups rehashed in this new joint.

It’s good to see independent, low[er] budget studios — like Cordero’s camp and bbgun — getting more mainstream visibility and work instead of the run-of-the-mill over-budgeted Hype Williams wannabes. Thank the internets.

A blogger who shall here remain nameless has on numerous occasions tried to get me on to J. Cole. Kind of like the CH bandwagon, I never really caught on, but I blame myself. The Roc Nation co-sign can’t be ignored: J. Cole is nice, I can’t stay out in the cold anymore. Some tried putting this mixtape in the pantheon of “Mixtape About Nothing” & “So Far Gone”, and while I wouldn’t go that far, it is one of the strongest of the year, kind of. You be the judge.
