Granted, I don’t cover as much acoustic-driven music as I’d like to but somethings something so stop being all greedy. The Five One have been somewhat quiet as of late, or it might just be that I’ve failed in my job of keeping up with them but either way here are the accompanying visuals to a track that’s about as feel good as it gets this side of an ordained minister Ma$e. According to them this tracks been out since the last SXSW but just recently let loose of the mastered, which I now bequeath unto you.

Combined with the interview he did with Wiz Khalifa for MTV, Curren$y is setting himself up to be one of the coolest if not funniest rappers out. Sure, the rap stoner duo has been done before, and so what if Wiz and Spitta are basically today’s Meth & Red minus the guns and gang bangs and their less-threatening brand makes it practically inevitable that they make the crossover into a mainstream suburban stoner underground success story. If rap were like presidential elections, I’d have a beer with this guy. Plus, it helps that his music keeps true to his particular brand of mellowed out indie stoner. Now if only he’d quit trading verses with a certain Bostonite.

I talked about this with a friend just the other day and they swore up and down that this was some ploy by Keith Murray to piggyback on some run in he had with Pac outside the House of Blues. The problem as I saw it — aside from the fact that Jay-Z and the Diddster have been doing it for over a decade — was that we’ve become jaded to the point of considering Murray’s use of Dame Dash’s dome as a bottle opener and fisticuff showdown with Pac as just a “run in”. Just look at Dame’s skull; he’s like the token black guy from whatever planet it was The Coneheads were from.

I look forward to progressive and different variation of hip-hop but there’s no way around glancing in the rear-view mirror and seeing that era as our high-water mark. I mean, shit was crazy. And artists like Keith Murray are part of our last tangible connections to that time in space — not the next reissue of Death Row’s Greatest Hits or Suge Knights next business venture. Nah, it’s a drunk Keith Murray passionately venting in Times Square on a late night or early morning.
